Walter Young fonds. 1919, 1937-1982.

The fonds consists of several groups. The first is academic and personal, reflecting Young's career as a teacher and scholar. The second group includes material of a political nature. These records are composed of notes and source material and include correspondence with many notable individuals. The third group of records covers Young's University of Victoria period and consists of subject files (1973-1981). Also included are records of B.C. Studies, Cedar Lodge files and Canadian Political Science Association material. The final group of records consist of over two hundred scholarly articles collected from diverse sources on numerous political subjects.

Walter Young received a B.A. from the University of British Columbia in 1955 and went to Oxford University as a Rhodes scholar and completed his M.A. in 1962. After returning to Canada, Young taught at Manitoba and Toronto before coming to UBC in 1962 as an instructor in political science. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 1965, and remained at UBC until 1973, when he went to the University of Victoria as chairman of the Department of Political Science.
